Jovino Santos Neto is a Brazilian-born pianist, flutist and composer who moved in 1993 from his hometown of Rio de Janeiro to Seattle, after spending 15 years playing in the ensemble led by the legendary Hermeto Pascoal. Since his arrival in the U.S., he has established a solid reputation as an artist with a unique musical voice, blending the rich rhythmic heritage of Brazil with a contemporary approach to harmony and improvisation.
In tonight’s performance at Bake’s, Jovino Santos Neto will be joined by the great vocal talents of Kellye Grey. With her renowned, brilliant use of voice as instrument, jazz singer Kellye Gray has entertained dignitaries and heads-of-state, and shared stages with an impressive constellation of international jazz, blues and R&B stars in a career spanning twenty years. The San Francisco Examiner called her “a musically most imaginative tour de force.” Described as “stunning scat singing, instrumental simulations and dark-toned balladry” by the Los Angeles Times, Gray creatively uses her voice as part of the ensemble. JazzTimes magazine calls her “an impressive, indeed frighteningly vast talent.”
This amazing talent match-up will be an eclectic treat and we are pleased to welcome two such great musicians to the stage together. Jovino and Kellye will be accompanied by, Chuck Deardorf on bass and Mark Ivestor on drums!iCal Import + Google Calendar
