Dine to Win, Free Tuesdays & More!

There’s a whole lot going on around here these days. Read up!

We are very excited to be part of the 2nd annual “Dine to Win” event put on by the Downtown Bellevue Association and Bellevue Local Table. Throughout the month of July, patrons at participating restaurants and cafes have chance to win a trip for two to Hawaii, Dinner for Two for a Year and gift cards. YOU could be a winner! All you have to do is spend $10.00 at any of the 27 “Dine to Win” restaurants and you will receive an enter-to-win form for Grand Prizes and also for the weekly $50 gift card drawings. There is no limit to how many times you can enter. You will receive an entry form any time you spend 10 bucks at one of the participating venues. We would like nothing more than for one of our customers to win big! So come out often and get your entries in!

In case you haven’t been out yet, Tuesday nights are FREE at Bake’s Place! We encourage you to come out with your friends, kick back and enjoy the soulful grooves of the Charles Mack Band with vocalist Josephine Howell. Sets start at 5pm, 6:30pm and 8pm. Come for a drink after work, a relaxed meal, a nightcap or all three! PLEASE NOTE, that this Tuesday, July 3, there will be special videotaping of the show for Charles to use as his audition reel for NBC’s vocal competition “The Voice.” Let’s pack the room, fire up the band and help send Charles to superstardom!

There is a groove for every taste this weekend at Bake’s. Friday night is about high-octane horns and serious soul as DoctorfunK is in the house with a 10-piece band that is sure to blow the roof off the building. On Saturday night, Little Blue & the Bluenotes perform their legendary brand of down & dirty blues. Finally, Sunday night brings the sizzling grooves of Susan Pascal’s Soul Sauce, a Latin jazz tribute to the great Cal Tjader. No matter when you come out this weekend, bodies will be shakin.’ For more information about these and other shows, please check out our calendar page.

Don’t forget Happy Hour on the patio! Tuesdays through Friday from 3–5:30pm. Enjoy $5 glasses of house red or white, $5 house drafts and $5 specialty cocktails created daily. Special Happy Hour menu! Northwest summers are short but sweet. Get it while you can!

The Bellevue Jazz Festival & More!

This week kicks off the Bellevue Jazz Festival and we have a great line-up on tap of some of the top jazz artists in the region. We’re excited to be partnering with the festival and the KPLU School of Jazz for the Rising Stars at the Bellevue Jazz Festival concert, which will take place at Bake’s on Sunday, June 3rd. This performance showcases some of the brightest up and coming young jazz artists from high schools in the region. Three ensembles, led by jazz educators Anton Schwartz, Steve Korn and Jim Sisko, will be featured and the show coincides with the 2012 KPLU School of Jazz CD release party. For more information about this show, please go here.

We have a great schedule of jazz performances running concurrently with the festival:

The Greta Matassa Quartet and special guest vibraphonist Susan Pascal are our featured artists for Tuesday, May 29th.  This performance will feature selections from Greta’s numerous CD’s, classics from Cal Tjader and George Shearing and new original material from Great including lyrical treatments of Pat Metheny’s songs “Always & Forever” and “Better Days Ahead,” and also Henry Mancini’s “Themes from Hatari.” Greta and Susan will be joined by Darin Clendenin on piano, Clipper Anderson on bass and Mark Ivester on drums. Please note that with the purchase of $25.00 in food and beverage, admission to the show is FREE.

On Wednesday, May 30 and Tuesday, May 31st, we are pleased to welcome Portland pianist Tom Grant to the stage. Although Tom has performed at Bake’s several times throughout the years, this marks his first appearance in our new location. Although Tom is considered on the pioneers of smooth jazz, his music taps into multiple genres including jazz, pop and soul. Be sure and check out Tom’s interview with Carol Handley this Tuesday at noon on http://smoothinseattle.com/listen/.

Jovino Santos Neto at Bake's Bellevue onThe Jovino Santos Neto Quarteto will be firing things up on Friday, June 1. Jovino, a renowned Brazilian pianist and composer, is a prominent figure on the Northwest music scene and is also a Bake’s Place favorite. Jovino’s band features Ben Thomas on vibraphone and bandeone, Tim Carey on bass and Jeff Busch on drums and percussion.

The Latin groove continues on Saturday, June 2 with Lary Barilleau & the Latin Jazz Collective. Lary, a veteran percussionist and composer, has been performing for over 30 years and was one of the co-founders of the popular Latin group Sonando. The Latin Jazz Collective is a high-energy quintet that plays original music by Barilleau and Seattle trumpeter Jay Thomas, who is also in the collective. The group also features Mark Seales on piano, Johnny Conga on conga and percussion and Jeff Norwood on bass. Lary and the band have a few surprises in store and this is one show you won’t want to miss!

In other news, we’ve received some very nice write-ups about our new place! Keegan Posser wrote a great blog post on thebellevuescene.com: Hanging at Bake’s.  We’ve also been featured on BellevueLocalTable.com: Bake’s Place Pairs Live Music with Great Cuisine. Finally, Libby Graham wrote a wonderful review of our opening for SeattleJazzScene.com: Review-Bake’s Place Grand Opening. Please take a moment to read these articles.  We’re thrilled and grateful for the buzz!
